Juniper plants
Virginia juniper 'Hetz' Juniperus virginiana 'Hetz' is a fast-growing juniper with a spreading crown. In a temperate climate, it exceeds 1 m in height and reaches 2–2.5 m across at 10 years. Lifespan exceeds 100 years. USDA hardiness zone: 4 (−28.9 to −34.4°C). The grey-blue foliage is scale-like when young, becoming needle-like, 0.5–0.7 cm long. Numerous spherical, dark blue cones with a grey bloom measure 0.5–0.6 cm across. Branches spread above the ground and become oblique in older specimens. Prefers fertile soil and dislikes compaction and waterlogging. Grows well in light clay, calcareous loam and sandy soils. Prefers sun but tolerates partial shade. Frost-hardy and seldom damaged by pests. Provide ample space and drainage in the planting hole. It tolerates clipping and retains its shape. Heavy snow can split branches, so tying them together and installing support frames for winter is recommended. Suitable for specimen and group planting and rock gardens.
