Plum plants
Stanley plum plants A moderately vigorous tree about 3 m tall, with a sparse rounded crown. The straight, dark grey trunk is slightly cracked and moderately flaky. Shoots are raspberry-purple, sparsely thorny and hairless, with internodes 3–3.5 cm long. Small vegetative buds, 0.21–0.3 cm, stand away from the shoots and are conical with pointed tips. Bright green rounded leaves average 7.5 × 5.4 cm, with bluntly pointed tips, rounded bases and medium-sized crenate teeth. Blades are glossy, moderately concave and loosely textured, hairless above and slightly hairy along the main and lateral veins below. Petioles reach 1.9 cm and have anthocyanin colouring. Each leaf has 1–2 medium-sized, sessile, yellow-green glands. Pale green lanceolate stipules are 0.8–1 cm long. Each bud produces 1–2 flowers. Flowers are very large, up to 3.1 cm across, and saucer-shaped. White petals measure 1.3 × 1 cm, are egg-shaped with rounded tips and wavy margins, slightly touching and not corrugated. Buds are white. Each flower has 28 stamens with straight filaments 0.7–1.2 cm long. The pistil is 1.1 cm long, with a straight 1 cm style and a rounded stigma positioned above or below the yellow anthers. The ovary is hairless. The bell-shaped calyx is hairless; oval sepals measure 0.6 × 0.3 cm and have no teeth or hairs. Long, hairless flower stalks measure 2.1 cm. Fruit forms on bouquet spurs and the previous year's growth. Fruit is large: minimum weight 30–35 g, average 40–45 g, largest specimens 50 g; height 5.3 cm, width 4 cm, thickness 3.7 cm. Asymmetrical and obovate, with a rounded apex and an elongated, necked base. Green ground colour is completely covered by dark purple. The medium-thick, loosely textured skin has brown subcutaneous dots and a heavy waxy bloom, without hairs or streaks, and separates poorly from the flesh. The cavity is moderately deep; the distinct ventral suture does not crack. Fruit stalks are 0.25 cm thick and 2 cm long. The large stone weighs 1.8 g, stated as 3.3% of flesh weight, and measures 3.2 × 1.5 cm. It is elongated-oval, pointed at the apex, extended at the base, light brown and moderately pitted and bumpy. It separates well from the flesh. The dorsal suture is moderately open, the central rib moderately pronounced, lateral ribs distinct, and the keel sharp and medium-sized.
